ClimaCast: A Podcast App to Fight Climate Change Ignorance

UI Design Process for a Podcast App Concept

The Challenge

With climate change rapidly altering our environments and more and more individuals recognizing the reality and impact it is having on communities around the world, individuals are seeking to engage more with climate justice content, stay informed and learn how their actions can have an impact.

The Problem

Climate change podcasts have steadily been growing in popularity and engagement, however, the content itself is disparate and spread out among various platforms and websites making it difficult to engage with.

The Solution

ClimaCast is a mobile podcast app for listening and engaging with climate change content. Designed with a convenient search and useful features for managing and personalizing your listening journey. Users can sign-up and create profiles to become part of the ClimaCast community, follow other listeners and curate playlists to have followed or favorited by others.

Tools Used

Figma (Wireframe, UI, UX), Illustrator (Visual Design), FreePik (Illustrations)
Material Design (Icons), Unsplash Plugin (Still Photos and Avatars).

After I had a better understanding of user goals and behaviors, I mapped out product flows and screens needed for key features of the app.

Prototype Design

After I decided on the visual style, I created an interactive prototype in Figma with the following high-fidelity user interfaces.

Sign-In/Sign-Up

Users can log in or sign-up using an email address or with a Facebook account for easier sign-in/sign-up.

Onboarding

Customize your podcast feeds by selecting topics of interest and following specific podcasts or adding to your favorites.

Home & Profile

Users can access downloads, favorites, see new episodes, continue listening, adjust profile settings, privacy, access playlists and manage app preferences.

Interactions

Users can access and manage their downloaded content, favorited podcasts, search podcasts by topic, show name or episode.

Reflection

This was a really fun UI Design project to work on and felt very relevant to the current state of climate justice. I spent two weeks experimenting and exploring various UI design methods to take my app — ClimaCast from concept to a tangible prototype.
